 The
First-Line Supervisor’s Toolkit
Transitional Management Skills for First-Line Supervisors
Non-supervisory employees who are transitioning into a supervisory
position should be exposed to training as soon as possible after they
are promoted, if not before. Often times these people are
dealing with their newly acquired status with mixed emotions –
absolutely delighted with the promotion and absolutely panic-stricken
with the realization that from now on they’ll be judged by how well
their subordinates perform. Many times, an newly promoted
employee has no more supervisory skills on his first day as a
supervisor than he/she did the day before as a non-supervisory
employee. Acquiring the supervisory skills needed for success
helps them avoid mistakes and also gives the trainee the opportunity
to embrace the idea of leading others.
Participants in this 6-week training course will learn the skills
necessary to transition them from a non-supervisory employee to an
effective, productive supervisor.
