Supervisory Skills

A manager’s job is to get things done through people. Managers are the driving force for improving performance, productivity, quality, and innovation in today’s organization. A firm’s success depends on effective supervision. Supervisors, then, must be skilled at applying management principles. They must be flexible in adjusting to management’s changing expectations as well as to those of workers. The supervisor’s job is distinct from other managers’ positions as they are asked to do more with less, while maintaining employees’ morale in the face of increasing pressures and job insecurity. Because it is unique, the needs of supervisors are also different in many respects from those of other managers.
